In his latest book, Swiss dentist Dr. Martin vom Brocke, PhD, presents a new type of diagnostic tool for orthodontics: The 4D growth templates [Orthotemplates] developed by him are a morphological diagnostic system for numerous treatment decisions in orthodontics. The traditional classification system developed by E. A. Angle in 1899 is significantly improved by this new tool because it allows the sagittal and vertical molar interdigitation to be recorded simultaneously. The system is based on a four-dimensional operationalization of the gravitational constant G and is independent of the patient’s ethnicity, age and gender.

The main part of the book is the philosophical dissertation (PhD) of Martin vom Brocke (Dr. med. dent. MSc) in the subject of orthodontics or actually now more precisely dental orthopedics, evaluated summa cum laude. His work is intended as an appeal to scientists in medicine, physics, art, mathematics and other disciplines to pay attention to the phenomenon of gravitation in the future also as an orientation reference, after the author was able to use it advantageously to refute a 70-year-old questionable standard value in orthodontics with a randomized blinded study. He shows how the gravitational constant – represented by a four-dimensional harmonic growth function (zeta-4-function) – can be used to draw and diagnostically use a coupled logarithmic spiral (called a struction spiral by the author) to identify the morphological maxilla, objectify relative mandibular size, explain significantly increased tooth width variability in the mandible, and legitimize premolar occlusion as a therapeutic goal in orthodontics. So far, the author has not been able to publish his innovative and unconventional method in any classical journal of orthodontics – journals of orthodontics do not yet exist. With his book, he is appealing to the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) to fund further research into his structural theories of gravity and dental orthopedics.

Is Orthodontics on the Verge of Radical Change?
To date, teeth displacement is classified according to a purely descriptive formula that dates back to 1899. Many regrets have been expressed on the lack of theoretical underpinnings for this ‘angle classification’, although a better system is yet to be found. It is precisely this gap that is now filled by the present research report from Swiss dentist, orthodontist and specialist in cephalometry, Dr. Martin vom Brocke. Here, he depicts new analytical possibilities for representing the term ‘harmonious’ through the use of convergence speeds. Taking the positional relationship of the first small molar teeth (premolars), he proposes a new dental classification that stands in a significant structural relation to the position of the ears, the chin, the nose, the eyes, tooth sizes, the occlusion, the second dentition, and the zeta4 function.
Vom Brocke’s central finding is an evolution-dependent structural adjustment phenomenon that follows the mathematically harmonious zeta functions. This phenomenon, described by the author as ‘struction’, opens up new possibilities also beyond the field of orthodontics. The research findings, obtained by vom Brocke on the basis of 350 recognised scientific publications, are supported by observations from other areas of biology and appear to be transferable to a wide range of natural growth processes.
